My MEGA ART REFERENCE post

vigaishere:

I mostly use my tumblr as a library of references, inspirations, and others that help me with my work. I figured others might want to use it that way too? Here are my tags on my tumblr where you can find them.

Inspiration - This is the biggest one and it’s filled with mostly things that inspire me. Maybe some of it will inspire you too.

Reference - It’s filled with tutorials, references, rooms, poses, and objects I need references from. The 2nd biggest. It’s a catch all.

Then there’s the tags that pinpoint a thing I need:

Poses - Take poses from real life, other works, sports, selfies, or fashion blogs. It will help your people look more interesting than just standing around.

Men - I have trouble drawing them so they get their own tag.

Color - tutorials on how to color your work, as well as color themes, color palettes and work who’s choices or use of color are amazing.

Lighting - How to and inspiration on using lighting in your illustrations, rooms, etc.

Fashion - Get inspired by clothing and mix and match outfits for your people. 3rd biggest tag on my tumblr. Although, a lot of it is my style you might get some inspiration from them.

Rooms - If you need to draw a room to place your characters in, here you go. Reference a room! It also has tutorials to draw rooms or things in a room. Also, kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, libraries, fictional rooms, vintage rooms, themed rooms, closets, kids rooms, adult rooms, hotel rooms, minimalist and maximalist rooms, etc.

Hands - Hands are hard. This will help.

Feet - Feet are hard too.

Body - Lots of tutorials on drawing bodies with some references for different body types. Some are also under bodies.

Hair - Give me lots of hair. Long beautiful hair! As well as black hair, short hair, POC hair, braids, afros, all sorts of hair reference and tutorials on drawing hair!

Expressions - You faces need a mood, so use this. I also made a handy chart for reference here! May also be under Expression.

Inking - Cool inks.

Composition - Mostly cool comics and illustrations as well as composition tutorials.

Perspective - For perspective. I also recommend Amy Reeder’s Perspective in Storytelling on tumblr!

Storyboards - Storyboard help!

Props - A newer one with props to draw.

Important - Not just art stuff but mental health too.

Background / Backgrounds / nature / cities / buildings = all inspiration for backgrounds

I hope this helps you on your art journey like does mine!

At first Netflix said, come write for us. We’ll save your cancelled shows and write about whatever niche story you want. Our algorithm says people will watch it!

Then a few years later they said, regardless of our promises or contract obligations we are cancelling shows after two seasons without telling anyone. Turns out no matter how loved a show is, we get less subscriptions after the second season.

How many subscriptions did we bring you? Netflix won’t say.

So writers started writing two season shows. Just give us two seasons, Netflix. Like you promised.

Then Netflix said, oops sorry! Turns out your show didn’t premiere at #1 and the views in the first day weren’t what we wanted so we’re cancelling your second season.

What were the numbers? How many people watched our show? Netflix doesn’t say.

Then, they did something extra special. They started taking shows and splitting their first season into two halves. Inside Job was not two seasons. It was one season split in half.

Oops! Sorry! The second half of your first season didn’t do as well as the first half, so now your show is cancelled!

Why? How many people? How much money? These companies are making cash hand over fist and they refuse to tell people the truth: people loved your show. Loved it. But some corpo exec wanted an infinite money making machine. Do you know how long shows are in production for before you watch them? Years. Like, 5+, even 10+ years. And Netflix gives it less than a week before they decide whether you’re getting cancelled.
